Wellsville Middle and High School English teachers beganĀ inquiry work within collegial learning circles three years ago.

What they accomplished for writers that year and what they’ve continued to accomplish as a result of their collegiality is nothing short of inspiring.

These inquiry groups grew out of the staff’s desire to learn with and from one another.

Like any staff, some have been more invested in this work than others, and like any investment, those who made the commitment are reaping the greatest rewards from their efforts.

It’s true that New York State is requiring districts to establish and sustain data teams, and it is true that the collegial learning that is happening in Wellsville satisfies the definition.

But we aren’t doing it in order to comply.

We’re engaged in inquiry because it’s helping us serve writers well.

I’ll share some of what I’m learning from this work over the next few days.
